The Harris County Precinct 5 Parks Patrol Division applies an innovative approach to providing patrols to the more than 60 county parks, encompassing approximately 14,000 acres.
The Parks Division utilizes marked patrol vehicles, foot patrols, ATV patrols, and bicycle patrols in an effort to cover all areas of the parks, including the more remote and heavily wooded sections. The diversity of these patrol methods allows the division to maintain a high degree of visibility while providing effective coverage throughout the parks.
Additionally, the Parks Division is responsible for patrols of Harris County Flood Control District property, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property, six Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioners Community Centers, and five Harris County libraries.

Bicycle Patrol
Specialized Bicycle Patrol
The deputies involved with the bicycle patrol program must complete a rigorous 40-hour training course consisting of specialized instruction.
During training, deputies learn to ride across various terrains, navigate up and down stairways, perform emergency dismounts, and conduct advanced maneuvers on a mountain bike.
Bicycle patrols are often deployed for routine patrols throughout the various park hike and bike trails. They are especially effective because they can maneuver into areas that patrol vehicles cannot access.
ATV Patrol
All-Terrain Patrol
Precinct 5 utilizes several types of ATVs, including off-road vehicles and quad-runner all-terrain vehicles. These vehicles allow deputies to access areas that patrol cars cannot while still providing speed and mobility for effective patrols.
With power-assisted steering and independent rear suspension, the ATVs are capable of navigating extreme terrain. The carts also allow passengers or equipment to be transported into and out of remote areas.
Park Patrol Coverage
Precinct 5 Parks Patrol provides coverage across a wide range of public spaces. Our deputies use a combination of marked vehicles, bicycles, ATVs, and foot patrols to provide a visible law enforcement presence throughout parks and other properties assigned to the division.
Communication Card
In an effort to help individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing better communicate with an officer who may be unfamiliar with sign language, Constable Terry Allbritton has made a communication card available in PDF format. The card can assist with communication during times of need.
