Katy Managed Lanes

The Katy Managed Lanes extend 12 miles from SH 6 to IH 610.

These are the four lanes located in the middle of IH 10, with two lanes in each direction. They replaced the single, reversible HOV lane.

Precinct 5 is responsible for patrolling the managed lanes and enforcing vehicle occupancy requirements during HOV hours.

What Are Managed Lanes?

"Managed lanes" refers to a dual-purpose roadway dedicated to mass transit for both high occupancy vehicles, also known as HOVs, and vehicles equipped with a toll tag.

Who Can Use the Managed Lanes?

METRO Vehicles

METRO vehicles are granted free usage of the managed lanes 24 hours a day.

High Occupancy Vehicles

HOVs are granted free usage in both directions during designated peak HOV hours.

Single Occupancy Vehicles

SOVs are permitted to use the managed lanes 24 hours a day for a toll charged electronically through an EZ TAG.

HOV Hours

Morning HOV Hours

Monday through Friday
5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Afternoon HOV Hours

Monday through Friday
2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Vehicle Occupancy

During HOV hours, drivers must choose their designated lane based on the occupancy of their vehicle. Precinct 5 deputies are responsible for enforcing vehicle occupancy requirements during these designated hours.

How Toll Rates Are Determined

In order to maintain an optimum level of service on the facility at all times, toll rates for the managed lanes are based on several factors.

Time of Day

Toll rates may vary depending on the time of day.

Vehicle Occupancy

The number of occupants in a vehicle can affect how the managed lanes are used.

Axle Count

The number of axles on a vehicle is also considered when determining toll rates.

Toll Tags and Electronic Tolling

Single occupancy vehicles may use the managed lanes 24 hours a day for a toll. The toll is charged electronically through an EZ TAG.

Drivers who use toll roads should ensure their toll tag account is properly maintained and that their vehicle information is current.
