The Property Room is the lead accountability agent for the management, preservation, and control of property and evidence. Our mission is to provide accountability and service to citizens, law enforcement officials, and prosecutors who rely on the evidence and property stored, maintained, and tracked by the department.
Property Categories
Items are booked into the Property Room under three different categories.
Evidence
Items collected in connection with a crime. Evidence is retained until final disposition and can only be released with a court order, Motion to Restore, or prior approval from the investigating deputy assigned to your case.
Safekeeping
Items taken for temporary storage with the intent to return the property to its rightful owner. These items are not evidence and are secured for convenience and/or safety purposes. All safekeeping property collected will be retained for the required duration in accordance with Article 18.17 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Found Property
Items discovered or abandoned with no clear owner, held for safekeeping or potential return. All found property collected will be retained for the required duration in accordance with Article 18.17 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Obtaining a Court Order
If you are seeking the release of evidence and need to obtain a court order, you will need to contact the court presiding over your case and/or your attorney.

Property Release Requirements
Property is released Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The following items will be requested when you arrive:

You must contact the Property Room prior to arrival to confirm that the release has been authorized, schedule an appointment, and ensure that the item is available for pickup.
