Jason Patrick Norling was born on August 17, 1969 and grew up in Cut and Shoot Texas. He attended Conroe High School and after graduating went on to study graphic design, attaining an Associate’s degree before considering switching to a career in the culinary arts.
Neither of these seemed to be the right fit for Jason, so in 1995 he turned his attention to law enforcement and received his Texas Peace Officers Commission. Jason first served the community of Hempstead Texas as an officer with Hempstead PD. Initially assigned to the patrol division, he took on several other roles and responsibilities, including Crime Prevention, Investigations, and Gang Activities. After being with the department for almost 4 years he left Hempstead and joined the ranks of the Harris County Constable’s Office Pct. 5.
Jason was assigned to the patrol division but as Pct. 5 expanded its Motorcycle Division he requested a transfer. He received his Police Motorcycle Certification while at Pct. 5 and soon after was brought over to the division. He later transferred to the Toll Road Division but remained on a motorcycle for this assignment.
On the morning of October 1, 2007 Jason was working traffic enforcement on the Westpark Toll Road as he had done numerous mornings before. While standing at the window of a vehicle he had stopped, Jason was struck by a passing SUV. He was transported to Herman Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Jason was survived by his wife, mother, and older brother who was a Sergeant with Pct. 5 at the time of Jason’s death.
Jason was a good friend to many. Always ready with a broad smile and sharp wit, he'd often have those around laughing. He was a big man with a bigger heart and he will be missed but never forgotten.

On September 6th, 2014, Governor Rick Perry awarded Jason with the Star of Texas, an award given to first responders who gave their lives in the line of duty.
