VICTIMS ASSISTANCE

 

 

The goal of the Victim Assistance Unit of the Harris County Pct. 5 Constable's Office is to assist victims and their loved ones following a violent crime.  The Victim Liaisons provide direct assistance to crime victims through advocacy, support, education and outreach. The VAU attempts to mitigate the effects of the incident, decrease secondary victimization, increase involvement and cooperation of victims and witnesses in the criminal justice system, and assist in moving from a victim to a survivor.  Many victims wonder what comes next after a crime.  Services provided include:

  • Crisis intervention.
  • Information on Victims’ Rights.
  • Assistance with Crime Victims Compensation.
  • Criminal Justice Support – Information and referral to assigned investigators and status of case.
  • Information about, and Advocacy with:
  •      Jurisdictional Law Enforcement Agency.
  •      District Attorney’s Office.
  •      Attorney General’s Office.
  • Information and advocacy with social services agencies which support victims.
  • Accompaniment to court and medical facilities as requested by Law Enforcement or Victims.
  • Community outreach and education.
  • Advocacy, information and support for Law Enforcement Individuals.
  • Cooperative efforts with other agencies.
