CIVILIAN SUPPORT STAFF

They are the unsung heroes of the department and without them Precinct 5 would not be able to operate as efficiently.  The Civilian Support staff cover a wide range of responsibilities that not only support our deputies, but ensures the entire department runs smoothly.  Lead by our Chief Clerk, the Civilian Support Staff are responsible for;

Administration:  Civilian employees deal with administrative tasks such as managing records, filing reports, processing paperwork, and maintaining databases. They also handle scheduling, payroll, parts of budgeting, and other clerical duties necessary for the department's operations.

Dispatch and Communication: Civilian employees, certified by the State of Texas as dispatchers, operate our emergency communication systems.  It is there job to receive and prioritize incoming calls for service, as well as gather essential information, coordinate responses, and dispatch deputies to incidents, ensuring an effective emergency response.

Evidence and Property Management: Civilian employees are responsible for the proper handling, storage, and documentation of evidence and property collected during investigations. They ensure the chain of custody is maintained, that records are accurate, and assist in preparing evidence for court proceedings.

IT and Technical Support: In the digital age, police departments rely heavily on technology. Civilian employees with expertise in IT and technical support assist in maintaining and troubleshooting computer systems, networks, surveillance equipment, and other technological resources used by the department.

Victim Advocacy and Support:  Civilian employees work in victim services, providing support and assistance to crime victims and their families. They offer emotional support, help navigate the criminal justice system, provide referrals to resources, and ensure victims' rights are upheld.

Civilian employees serve in many other capacities as well.  Records management, property maintenance, finance and budgeting, human resources, legal affairs, and community based programs are just a few added to the list.

Their role within the department may vary, but their efforts contribute to the overall functioning and operational efficiency of the Precinct 5 Constable's Office
