Some of the most heartrending crimes are those perpetrated against animals. It is the task of the Precinct 5 Animal Crimes Unit to investigate and file charges against those who commit these crimes. During the course of an investigation, the Animal Crimes Unit will document and collect evidence for use in both civil and criminal court cases.
The unit maintains a productive investigative caseload while working with other governmental agencies, animal welfare organizations, and the citizens of Harris County. Because of their expertise in working with distressed animals, these investigators are often called in for animal rescue cases as well.
